Dr Piers Clifford

Dr Piers Clifford is a leading Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding counties, specialising in general and interventional cardiology. He is the research lead for NIHR portfolio clinical trials and at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust Wycombe, where he was the Chairman of the Division of Medicine. At Wycombe Hospital, he has developed highly successful angioplasty and investigative units unrivalled by other district Hospitals. Dr Clifford also consults at the HCA Chiswick diagnostic centre, the BUPA Cromwell and the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.

Dr Clifford is particularly interested in atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), the modern treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), syncope (fainting), chest pain, breathlessness, and inherited cardiomyopathies. He regularly performs over 350 coronary angioplasty procedures (clearing a narrowed or blocked artery) each year and runs busy NHS and private outpatient clinics.

Dr Rodney De Palma

Dr Rodney De Palma is the Head of Cardiology at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

He specialises in general cardiology and interventional cardiology. His interests include angina and heart attacks, heart valve diseases, and high blood pressure. He performs invasive coronary angiography and stenting using intravascular imaging and physiological guidance, patent foramen ovale closure for stroke caused by a hole in the heart, and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) for aortic stenosis.

After graduating from UCL/ The Royal Free, his cardiovascular training was at Barts, Homerton and the Royal London Hospitals, with higher specialist training at the London Chest Hospital and The Heart Hospital, UCL, London. He has also undertaken fellowships at Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois in Lausanne, Switzerland and in structural heart disease intervention at the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden. In addition to his clinical work, he is currently a senior lecturer for the University of Buckingham Medical School.

Dr Soroosh Firoozan

Dr Andrew Money-Kyrle

Dr Andrew Money-Kyrle is a Consultant Cardiologist based in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. He trained in Cardiology in London at the Royal Brompton Hospital, doing research into heart failure at the National Heart and Lung Institute with further training in Interventional Cardiology (Angioplasty and stenting techniques) at St Bartholomew’s, The London Chest Hospital and the Heart Hospital (UCH).

Dr Money-Kyrle has wide experience in managing coronary heart disease, heart failure, and rhythm disturbances such as heart block and AF and assessing patients with palpitations, blackouts, and hypertension. He has expertise in echocardiography, Transoesophageal echo and Brady pacing techniques. He has gained a reputation for giving varied and entertaining talks to colleagues on various cardiology topics.

Dr Norman Qureshi

Dr Norman Qureshi is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist specialising in managing patients with heart rhythm disorders. He performs ablations on various arrhythmias, including SVTs and atrial fibrillation, and implantation of pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators and left atrial appendage occlusion devices.

Dr Qureshi strongly advocates patient education and places great emphasis on patient engagement in his clinical practice, ensuring understanding of their clinical condition.

Dr Punit Ramrakha

Dr Ramrakha is a Consultant Cardiologist with over 20 years of experience in adult cardiology, including diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart diseases such as coronary artery disease (angina and heart attacks), hypertension, heart valve disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias and blackouts (e.g. atrial fibrillation).

He is an Interventional Cardiologist experienced in procedures such as complex coronary angioplasty with stents, pacemaker implantation, closure of holes in the heart (ASD and PFO), and renal denervation for resistant hypertension.

Dr Ramrakha is also co-founder of “Heart Health”, a secure online web portal or an app on your mobile device that enables you to create your ‘health passport’ of Private and NHS data across specialities. Dr Mayooran Shanmuganathan

Dr Mayooran Shanmuganathan (Dr Shan) is a consultant cardiologist with 15 years of experience in medical practice. He leads the provision of heart failure services in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals).

He graduated from Imperial College London in 2008 and undertook his postgraduate training in general internal medicine and cardiology in major teaching hospitals in London, including Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, Barts Heart Centre and St George’s Hospital and in Oxford at John Radcliffe Hospital. He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2011.

He has also undergone research training at Imperial College London, Harvard Medical School and University of Oxford (PhD) and continues to perform clinical research and has published his findings in peer-reviewed medical journals.

He sees patients with all types of cardiac symptoms. He has a specialist interest in cardiac MRI and all forms of treatments for heart failure. Besides Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, he also practices in Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals as an advanced heart failure specialist caring for patients with mechanical circulatory devices and heart transplantation.

Dr Alexandra Kemp

Dr Alexandra Kemp has been working in dermatology for more than 20 years. She initially trained as a GP then moved to work exclusively in Dermatology from 2008.

Her special interests in Dermatology include skin cancer and skin surgery. She also provides private cosmetic treatments such as removal of harmless skin lesions, scar improvement and anti-ageing treatments as well as injections for excessive sweating, cryotherapy for warty lesions and mole checks.

Mr. James Chan

Mr. James Chan is a Consultant Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon. He is fully registered on the General Medical Council (GMC) and an accredited Plastic Surgeon on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). His NHS practice is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe General Hospital and the National Spinal Injuries Centre of the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.Mr. Chan believes in delivering the best evidence-based care tailored to the individual needs of his patients, whether this is surgical or non-surgical.

Following his medical qualification from Cambridge University in 2004 and junior posts in East Anglia and London, Mr. Chan completed his Higher Surgical Training in Plastic Surgery on the Oxford rotation. Subsequently, he was awarded a Travelling Bursary by BAPRAS to undertake further subspecialty training in Reconstructive Microsurgery at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan, one of the foremost plastic surgery centres worldwide. This comprehensive training has provided him with the skillset to deal with common as well as complex surgical problems.

Mr. Chan holds a Clinical Lectureship at Oxford University where he was Senior Scholar and awarded a PhD. He has worked as Fellow at Cochrane UK where he focused on the synthesis and dissemination of Evidence-based Medicine. He has published widely in medical journals as well as the standard plastic surgery textbooks and contributed to national guidance on traumatic limb reconstruction. He has held awards and grants from institutions including the Wellcome Trust, Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal College of Surgeons of England, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and BAPRAS.

Dedicated to the next generation of surgeons, Mr. Chan is a GMC-recognised trainer and member of the Education and Training Committee of BSSH, and interviews for National Selection for entry into higher specialty training in Plastic Surgery in the UK. He serves as a peer-reviewer for the top plastic surgery journals, runs a national microsurgery training course for surgical trainees, presents at national and international conferences and hosts ‘Stoke Mandeville Plastics’, a popular international webinar series for plastic surgeons which focuses on cutting edge Plastic Reconstructive Surgery.

Outside surgery, Mr. Chan enjoys fine art and plays the violin and piano.

Miss Alexandra Murray

Alexandra Murray is a fully accredited UK-trained consultant plastic surgeon. She has been on the specialist register for plastic surgery with the General Medical Council since 2015 (4716682 – full registration and licence to practice). She is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons with FRCS(Plast). She is also a member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) as well as the British, European and International Burns Associations (BBA, EBA and ISBI).

Alexandra is a dedicated and dynamic plastic surgeon. She is highly committed to the delivery of excellent and safe patient care. She has been working as an NHS consultant in plastic surgery, specialising in burns, scars (including use of Lasers) and reconstruction since 2013, and as a substantive consultant for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital since September 2015. Alexandra has been leading the adult and children’s regional burns service throughout this post and, along with an excellent multi-disciplinary team, delivers all aspects of unit-level burn-care for patients from across the entire region.

Alexandra trained throughout the UK in a number of hospitals in Yorkshire and London. After finishing surgical training in the UK, Alexandra went on to work internationally, completing prestigious fellowships in Melbourne (2012-2013), with Damien Grinsell in microsurgery and with Heather Cleland for the Victoria State Adult Burns Service. Alexandra then moved to Perth (2013-2015) to work under the mentorship of Professor Fiona Wood for the Western Australian State Burns Service, first as their burns fellow for adults and children, and then later as a junior consultant.

Alexandra has delivered several leadership roles in the NHS and is passionate about driving a culture of openness and inclusivity. These include head of department for plastic surgery and burns for 3.5 years (2016-2020), clinical governance lead (2020) and educational lead for registrars (2022-24). Alexandra is also the chair of the multi-disciplinary team focused on abdominal wall and perineal reconstruction – joint with general surgery and radiology.

Alexandra is a GMC-recognised trainer and is passionate about training the next generation of doctors and surgeons. Amongst many formal and informal teaching activities, Alexandra has recently set-up a BAPRAS-badged Simulation-based training course, focused on the management of major burns. She continues to contribute to research in her field, and has been supporting burns research fellows working at Stoke Mandeville Hospital for a number of years. Alexandra is highly regarded across the UK for her research and work in burns care and scarring. She has been an invited speaker and faculty member for national and international webinars, conferences and courses.

Mr Ryan Kerstein

Mr Ryan Kerstein is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, and Associate Medical Director for Research & Innovation at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where they focus on delivering exceptional patient care through transformative surgical interventions. Mr Kerstein specialises in a comprehensive range of Plastic Surgery services, with a particular focus on skin cancer management. Miss Asifa Shaikh

Miss Shaikh offers state-of-the-art cataract surgery, including toric and premium multifocal implants. The bulk of Miss Shaikh’s work in her NHS job is in managing Glaucoma with medications, lasers and surgery.

Miss Shaikh was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (BHT) in September 2006. She was Clinical Lead for Ophthalmology at BHT for 6 years between September 2016 to August 2022. She is currently the Joint Lead for the Glaucoma service and the Clinical Lead for the private Ophthalmology service at BHT.

Miss Shaikh underwent postgraduate surgical training in Ophthalmology in the Oxford Deanery. She has been extensively trained in all aspects of General Ophthalmology with her final year of surgical training (ASTO) culminating in specialising in Cornea and External Eye Diseases with emphasis on the role of immune modulation in the management of Ocular Inflammatory Eye Diseases at The Oxford Eye Hospital and The Western Eye Hospital, St. Mary’s NHS Trust, London.

Having achieved the Certificate of Completion of Surgical Training (CCST), Miss Shaikh underwent a post- CCST fellowship training in Corneal and External Eye Diseases at St. Mary’s NHS Trust (Western Eye Hospital), London for 12 months.  Following on from this, she undertook further sub-speciality fellowship training in all aspects of medical and surgical management and laser treatment of glaucoma at The Oxford Eye Hospital.

A lot of anterior segment pathology and glaucoma coexists, and glaucoma surgery is either preceded by (e.g., glaucoma drainage surgery or Trabeculectomy) or requires concurrent cataract surgery (e.g., insertion of MIGS glaucoma implants) and Miss Shaikh’s training across sub-specialities helps her to amalgamate subspecialist management of two very important groups of conditions. She has extensive experience in all aspects of glaucoma management including medical management, lasers (SLT, ECP, Cyclodiode and micro-pulse laser treatments), penetrating drainage surgery and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Additionally, cataract surgery in glaucoma patients can be complex and Miss Shaikh is very experienced in the surgical management of these challenging cases.

Miss Shaikh also has vast experience with state-of-the-art, high volume, complex, micro-incision cataract surgery, including toric and premium multifocal implants in non-glaucoma patients.

Miss Shaikh has published in most subspecialties of ophthalmology and particularly on Glaucoma. Although her NHS practice mainly consists of Glaucoma and Cataracts, Miss Shaikh is happy to offer outpatient advice with general ophthalmology, ocular inflammatory (uveitis or iritis) and lid disorders.

Mr Mandeep Singh Bindra

Dealing with complex cases and complications from previous surgeries, Mr Bindra is particularly interested in all retinal, macular and vitreous conditions and cataract-related issues.

Mr Bindra is a very experienced comprehensive Ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon. Having graduated in Medicine with honours from Kings College, University of London, he trained in ophthalmology in prestigious units in London, the Midlands and Manchester and now has over 20 years of experience.

Mr Bindra is the research lead for ophthalmology at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, responsible for bringing some of the latest advances in ophthalmology to his patients. He was previously Associate Medical Director for Research and Innovation for the organisation.

Mr Bindra is experienced in dealing with complex surgical cases including complications from previous surgeries. As well as cataract surgery, he has expertise and specialist interests in all retinal, macaular and vitreous conditions and cataract-related issues. Mr Bindra will happily take appointments for the following:

Mr Mike Adams is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in managing corneal, conjunctival and external eye disease and cataracts.

Mr Mike Adams is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in managing corneal, conjunctival and external eye disease and cataracts. His undergraduate medical training at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, led to clinical training at Addenbrookes Hospital, and he qualified with honours in 2002.

After ‘house jobs’ at the West Suffolk Hospital and concurrent work as a tutor and lecturer to undergraduate medical students at Cambridge University, Mr Adams began his career in ophthalmology at the Kent County Ophthalmic Hospital, one of the UK’s oldest eye hospitals. From there, he progressed to train in most of the major eye units in the southeast, including St Thomas’ Hospital, London; Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead; the Oxford Eye Hospital, and the National Neurology Institute in Queens Square, London.

He held an Honorary Fellowship in cornea and external eye disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital before being appointed in 2016 to a Consultant post at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where he now leads the corneal and cataract services.

Miss Sarah Maling

Miss Maling is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract, paediatric and strabismic ophthalmology. She is currently the lead for paediatric and strabismus ophthalmology services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust.

Miss Maling is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in cataract, paediatric and strabismic ophthalmology. She is currently the lead for paediatric and strabismus ophthalmology services at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust and joint lead with Mr Mike Adams of the cataract service.

Miss Maling worked for over a decade within the West London and North Thames eye training rotations (Western Eye Unit, Chelsea and Westminster, Hillingdon Hospital, Central Middlesex Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital), completing fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital and at Great Ormond Street Hospital. She has been heavily involved in education in Ophthalmology with several appointments at the Royal College of Ophthalmology and was appointed and continues to be Chair of Training (Ophthalmology) for the United Kingdom.

Miss Maling was delighted to be joint-awarded the Outstanding Contribution Star Award 2019 for a cataract project at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust. She is an active researcher in her field and has published widely including comparing multifocal, accommodative and mono-focal lenses in cataract surgery and managing rare conditions such as lymphatic malformation in the orbit of children. She is currently involved in the use of AI in cataract follow up and as a part of NHS England and Scotland projects planning cataract delivery in the UK.

Mr Hiten Sheth

Mr Sheth joined Stoke Mandeville and Buckinghamshire Healthcare in 2011. His private work is focused solely on cataract assessment and surgery.

He qualified from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Imperial College, London, in 1997, and he subsequently undertook rotations in Accident and Emergency, Neurosurgery, Plastic surgery, and Ophthalmology in London and Brisbane, Australia.

Mr Sheth’s basic surgical training in Ophthalmology was at the renowned St Thomas’ Hospital in London, followed by higher surgical training in Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery at the internationally recognised Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He is active in teaching and research, with 35 peer-reviewed publications and 20 posters presented nationally and internationally. He has led teaching for GPs, Opticians, medical students and the multi-disciplinary team both in London and Buckinghamshire.

Mr Sheth is known for his thorough clinical assessment and friendly manner and gives all patients as much time and as much information as they require.

Mr Sheth is happy to help patients seeking cataract surgery or YAG laser capsulotomy for capsule opacification. He sees self-pay patients only on Monday evenings by arrangement.

Mr Moustafa Issa

Alongside completing a Medical Retina Fellowship, Mr Issa trained and worked in several regions in England, including eight years at the Oxford Eye Hospital. He subsequently accepted a consultant post with Buckinghamshire Health Care NHS Trust in 2016, leading the department’s Acute and General Ophthalmology services.

Mr Matthew Kinsella

Mr Kinsella qualified as an ophthalmologist in 2004 and now specialises in treating and managing adult glaucoma and cataracts. He undertook a sub-specialist glaucoma Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital.

In addition to the more traditional glaucoma operations and laser surgeries (trabeculectomy and aqueous shunt surgery, laser iridotomy, SLT and diode), Mr Kinsella has been actively adopting novel, minimally-invasive glaucoma surgical techniques, such as iStents, OMNI, Canaloplasty, Trabeculectomy, XEN and Micropulse.

Mr Kuan Sim

Mr Kuan Sim trained at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, St Paul’s Eye Unit in Liverpool and Birmingham Midland Eye Centre, with retinal training at Western Eye Hospital Imperial College and Hillingdon Hospital in London.

He is the clinical lead for intravitreal injection service at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and has been twice nominated for the prestigious Macular Disease Society Award.

Miss Fiona Jazayeri

Miss Jazayeri is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and leads the Oculoplastics service. She specialises in managing patients with eyelid conditions.

As an ophthalmic oculoplastic surgeon, Miss Jazayeri has a special interest in the treatment of all problems relating to the eyelid and periocular region. She is the lead for oculoplastics and provides a regional service for oculoplastic (eyelid) and lacrimal (tear duct) surgery.

Mr Groppe is a General Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in the management of patients with retinal conditions and cataracts. He is the joint lead for medical and surgical retinal services at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust and undertook postgraduate Ophthalmology training in the Oxford and West-Midlands deaneries.

He was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, in 2015. His NHS clinics are in Stoke Mandeville and Amersham, and he strives to deliver the best care and the latest treatments to all his patients.

Miss Anna Mead

Miss Anna Mead is a Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in the management of patients with glaucoma and cataract. She undertook her undergraduate training at Cambridge University and qualified with honours from Cambridge University Clinical School.

As an Ophthalmologist, she has trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital and hospitals in the Oxford Region. She has combined her clinical training with academic research and undertook a PhD in glaucoma surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London. As a result of this research, she has published and presented nationally and internationally.

Her higher surgical training was completed with a fellowship in glaucoma at The Oxford Eye Hospital. She was appointed as a Consultant in 2011 as a General Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in glaucoma at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, working at Wycombe General and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals. She has recently been appointed by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as Head of the School for Ophthalmology, responsible for delivering high-quality Ophthalmic training across the Thames Valley region.

Mr Ramesh Chennagiri

Mr Chennagiri is a full-time consultant in trauma and orthopaedics at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust with a special interest in wrist and hand surgery. Mr Chennagiri runs clinics and operates at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wycombe Hospital.

He commenced his orthopaedic training in India and obtained a post-graduate degree. After passing the FRCS (Surgery in General) examination, Mr Chennagiri underwent Higher Specialist Training as a Specialist Registrar in trauma and orthopaedics at Oxford Deanery. He developed an interest in wrist and hand surgery and worked with hand surgeons in Oxford and Reading. Mr Chennagiri obtained the FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2008.

He undertook further training in various aspects of wrist and hand surgery as a clinical fellow at Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby. The Unit is one of the few dedicated to hand surgery in the country and has renowned orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons and hand therapists involved in clinical, research and educational aspects of wrist and hand conditions, including acute injuries.

Mr Kinner Davda

Mr Davda is a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in all aspects of foot and ankle disorders. He is a Consultant at Wycombe General and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals, both part of the Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

He trained with the North West Thames Orthopaedic Programme, one of the most sought-after rotations in the country. He was based primarily at St. Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals, one of four Major Trauma Centres in London, working with some of the UK’s top surgeons in foot and ankle surgery and lower limb reconstruction. He gained experience with world-renowned surgeons treating complex foot and ankle conditions at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, an international centre of excellence. He further developed his foot and ankle reconstruction skills on a fellowship in Windsor, The Royal Surrey County and Frimley Hospitals, plus a year at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford. Mr Davda has a broad foot and ankle practice, seeing patients with various conditions, including arthritis, sports injuries, diabetic feet, childhood conditions and all aspects of trauma.

Mr Jonathan Baxter

Mr Jonathan Baxter is a Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon offering expertise in treating acute injuries and degenerative conditions. He has a special interest in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery and tendon injuries, including rotator cuff tears, fractures and dislocations of both joints. He offers treatment for both early and advanced arthritis and joint replacement surgery of the shoulder.

Mr Max Mifsud

Mr Mifsud is a fully certified Consultant Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. He undertook subspecialist clinical fellowships in Paediatric Orthopaedics and in Limb Reconstruction in Oxford and another in Sarcoma and Joint Reconstruction in London at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore). Mr Mifsud also undertook a research fellowship in neuromuscular conditions in children in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children.

Mr Ioannis Aktselis

Mr Ioannis Aktselis is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon, specialising in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Lower Limb Reconstruction. He was appointed to Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust in 2018.

Mr Aktselis has completed his Trauma and Orthopaedic Training in Athens, Greece and subsequently in the UK. He has gained his subspecialty training after completion of a Trauma Fellowship at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and a Foot and Ankle and Limb Reconstruction Fellowship in Bristol Royal Infirmary. Mr Aktselis has also undertaken a travelling Foot and Ankle and Limb Reconstruction Fellowship to Tampa General Hospital in Florida to visit Dr Roy Sanders, a pioneer in foot and ankle surgery.

Mr Aktselis has a strong academic background having completed an MSc in Health Management and a PhD with distinction in the surgical management of hip fractures.

His scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals have achieved more than 350 citations, and he has presented in National and International Orthopaedic Conferences. His strong interest in teaching and training has been acknowledged as he has been awarded the Trainer of the Month in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, and he has been the recipient of a Care Award for his compassionate care towards his patients. Mr Aktselis has been appointed as the Major Trauma Lead for Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

Mr Parm Johal

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr Parm Johal is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery. His clinical interests comprise all aspects of knee conditions, including sports injuries, arthroscopic surgery, meniscal surgery, knee ligament surgery, partial and total knee replacements, patellofemoral arthritis and instability, including medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction.

Mr Johal qualified from the Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, London, in 1994. He undertook his orthopaedic training in London, working at many centres of excellence, including University College Hospital London, the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.

Additionally, Mr Johal undertook specialist fellowship training in sports surgery and joint replacement at Sportsmed-SA in Adelaide, Australia, and dedicated knee surgery fellowships at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, and Guy’s Hospital in London. He was also awarded a prestigious European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics & Traumatology (EFORT) fellowship to the University of Leuven, Belgium.

Mr Johal has a strong background in research. He wrote his MD thesis on the kinematics of the knee joint. This work has been cited by many other researchers and major implant companies in relation to their more modern knee prosthesis designs. He has published extensively in scientific journals and has presented to learned societies at both national and international conferences.

Mr Luthfur Rahman

Mr Luthfur Rahman is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with 20 years of experience in the NHS. Mr Rahman specialises in hip and knee problems including hip preservation surgery. He leads the Hip Fracture Service and is Orthopaedic Digital Lead in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust (Wycombe and Stoke Mandeville Hospital).

Mr Rahman has expertise in the full range of hip and knee problems and he was one of the first surgeons to develop a pathway and undertake same day discharge hip replacement in London at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. His clinical interests include hip replacement, knee replacement, partial knee replacement, revision surgery, hip arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy amongst other expertise including developing patient pathways based on his unique experience.

Mr Rahman graduated from University College London Medical School and subsequently undertook his postgraduate higher specialist training in the prestigious University College London Hospital training programme and has spent several years in London’s leading hospitals in addition to other multiple major teaching hospitals including the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He is a highly trained specialist having completed multiple world-renowned fellowships in Canada where he spent a year as a hip and knee reconstruction fellow; UCLH as a fellow in hip preservation surgery and at the Royal London Hospital where he undertook the highly sought after major trauma fellowship.

Mr Rahman has a focus on enhanced recovery and strongly believes in patient centred care, ensuring his patients are his top priority in getting them back to their normal function. To achieve excellent results, Mr Rahman uses the most up-to-date modern techniques and equipment based on research evidence.

Mr Rahman has a significant interest in the latest research and innovation and has published in multiple peer reviewed journals with active development of Quality Improvement Projects and clinical research. He is a keen educator and has a formal qualification in medical education from the University of Nottingham. He teaches on the Internationally recognised Advanced Trauma and Life Support Course at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has trained many up and coming surgeons.

Mr Edward Seel

Mr Edward Seel attended Southampton University Medical School in 1993 with subsequent Orthopaedic training in Wessex Deanery, considered Nationally as one of the best academic training schemes. He undertook advanced spinal fellowships at Oxford University Hospital and at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square, London. These experiences have given Mr Seel the breadth of knowledge and skills that underpin his expertise.

Mr Seel’s practice is sub-specialised to the field of Spine Surgery and provides services for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with spinal conditions, including non-operative injection therapies and all aspects of open spine surgery. His private practice is based at the Chiltern and Shelburne Hospitals, Buckinghamshire.

The pathway encompasses all the latest research around preoperative preparation, intraoperative muscle sparing techniques, postoperative multi modal pain relief and early mobilisation.

Having graduated from Athens Medical School, Greece in 2002, Mr Pollalis completed his specialist trauma and orthopaedic training in Athens, Greece and in Oxford, UK. During his training he was widely exposed to the full spectrum of elective and emergency orthopaedic conditions.

He then undertook extensive specialist fellowship training in joint replacement and worked with some of the UK’s foremost surgeons in hip and knee surgery. During his first fellowship in the world-renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford he expanded his experience in primary and revision hip and knee surgery. In particular, he worked extensively with the designer group of the Oxford Partial Knee Replacement, gaining unique expertise in this field. He then completed a second high-volume specialist hip and knee fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an outstanding reputation for joint replacement surgery. During his third joint replacement fellowship at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, he gained further expertise in the treatment of complex joint and bone problems including surgery for metastatic bone disease.

Mr Pollalis has a strong research background. He has published and presented extensively throughout his career on hip and knee problems, as well as on enhanced recovery after surgery, both in the UK and abroad.

He is also a very keen educator with a passion for teaching and training. He is the Educational Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and sits regularly on the ARCP panel assessing the annual progression of orthopaedic trainees of the Oxford Deanery.

Outside of medicine Mr Pollalis enjoys spending time with his family. He has a passion for sailing and has competed in various regattas worldwide. He also enjoys skiing, music, and traveling.

Mr Babur Mahmood

Mr Mahmood graduated from University of Southampton in 1995. He underwent Basic Surgical Training in Southampton and Colchester. He was an Anatomy Demonstrator at University of Cambridge.

He completed his Higher Surgical Training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore Training Scheme. He achieved his subspecialty training in Spinal Surgery at Stanmore with further consolidation with Fellowships at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Oxford University Hospitals.

Mr Mahmood was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic Surgeon at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust in 2014. His current NHS and private practices are exclusively in Spinal Surgery. He deals with all aspects of spinal surgery (including degenerative, deformity, tumour, trauma and infection) from cervical, thoracic to lumbosacral spine).

Mr Babak Shariati

Mr Shariati is a neurosurgeon with special interest in Spinal Surgery.

He finished his medical school in Lodz, Poland in 1998 with subsequent Neurosurgical training in Poland. He finished two years skull base fellowship in Barts and The Royal London Hospital. He continued his carrier in spinal surgery in the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square, London. These experiences have given Mr Shariati vast knowledge about intradural and extradural tumours, transnasal and transoral endoscopic approach to upper cervical and skull base for cervical pathology and adult scoliosis. He finished his spinal fellowship at the prestigious spinal unit at Nottingham University Hospital. Before starting his job in Buckinghamshire NHS Trust, he had worked as a spinal consultant at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Sheffield, and Frimley Park Hospital.

Mr Shariati has strong academic background and at present he is a tutor at Buckingham Medical University.

Mr Shariati’s special interest is in minimally invasive spinal techniques including robotic surgery. He is sub-specialised in different aspects of whole spine pathology including non-operative spinal injections for diagnosis and pain managementand SIJ pathology. Stuart Blagg has been a Specialist Spinal Consultant for the South Bucks NHS Trust and the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville since 2004. He is fellowship trained in spinal trauma, degeneration, tumour, and paediatric spinal problems, including scoliosis and deformity of the whole spine from the occiput to the coccyx. He has extensive experience with sports-related spinal problems.

Nationally Stuart has been President of the British Association of Spine Surgeons and sat on the complex spine clinical reference group for NHS England for six years. He was involved in setting up the regional trauma and spine regional networks.
